Weekly e-pistle 04/03/2016

    St. Paul's
   E-pistle

March 31, 2016

This Sunday, April 3rd
Second Sunday of Easter
In spite of all we have heard and all that we have seen, it is often hard to believe. Because it is hard to believe, we will invest ourselves in the Easter mystery for fifty days (a week of weeks). Because it is hard to believe, John the evangelist will provide sign after sign celebrating Jesus' victory over death. Because it is hard to believe, the Lord Jesus will return to us again and again in the mystery of the holy communion, inviting us to touch and taste his presence, and offering us his peace.

Holy Communion - 11 AM
All are welcome to receive Communion!

Sunday's Readings:
Acts 5:27-32         Psalm 118:14-29       Revelation 1:4-8        John 20:19-31

Sunday's chancel flowers: are given to the glory of God by Craig & Vicki Pyle in honor of Marya Parker's birthday.

A New Day is Dawning
The Call Committee is delighted to announce that Pr. Dawn Roginski will begin her pastoral service with us on April 1, 2016.  This Sunday, April 3, 2016, will be Pr. Dawn's first day in the pulpit as our new pastor, and we are deeply grateful for your support and prayers that have brought us to this day.

We  are  excited  that you will now have the opportunity to begin experiencing Pr. Dawn's  ministry and see what your Call Committee has already been blessed to see.  We  are very  optimistic for our future at Saint Paul's under the gentle leadership and strong justice ministry that Pr. Dawn has to offer.

The Council has been busy working out the details of Pr. Dawn's contract and Letter of Service. Letter of Service is a new term that applies to Pastor Dawn serving a Two-Point Ministry.  Kathy Sutin has done the heavy lifting on the financial and benefit information. Joseph White has been busy updating the website with information about Pr. Dawn.  New service information has been submitted to the Times Hearld and should be in this Saturday's edition of the Religious News.  The Call Committee is working on readying the pastor's office for its new occupant and will have a hands on work day this coming Saturday.  We will arrive at church on Sunday with smiles on our faces and paint under our finger nails.

Some of you have probably noted the on-going landscape clean-up that began before Easter to welcome Pr. Dawn and to prepare for her installation on Sunday, May 22, at 3 pm.  Thanks to all of you who have been working and continue to work on this.

We are expecting 100-plus guests on Sunday, May 22nd for this day of celebration.   Pr. Carlton Monroe, whom you recently met at our February 7th Congregational Meeting, has been invited by Pr. Dawn to deliver the sermon at her installation.  Dean Ahlberg has invited friends of Pr. Dawn from the Vallejo Choral Society, where Pr. Dawn sings alto, and choir members and musicians from Holy Trinity to participate in special music on this festive day.  The Dean of the Sierra Pacific Synod will preside at the service of installation.   Joining us will be clergy from across the Synod to celebrate with Pr. Dawn and wish her well.  Karen Spears has been busy planning refreshments for the reception that will follow the installation and will be asking for your help with food and hospitality.  It will take an all-hands-on-deck with a whole village-effort to make everyone feel welcome and their needs met.  Thank you in advance for your support.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Call Committee members:  Frank Gonsalves, Jessica Nelson, Vicki Pyle and Don Ockrassa.  Thank you for your many hours of service to the call process, hours in addition to the many you already spend in service to the church, hours in addition to your too busy schedules with families and jobs.  I was lucky to be recently retired and able to give this my nearly full-time effort.  Leading this call process has been one of the most deeply rewarding spiritual journeys of my life, and I feel very blessed by the relationships we have forged together.  Our duties as a Call Committee will officially end with Pr. Dawn's Installation Service on May 22.  I believe that exciting days lie ahead for our congregation as God accompanies us into the future.

Brown Bag Meal Ministry
Remember the hungry on street corners and elsewhere by having a Brown Bag Meal handy in your car to offer these folks.  The bags are available for pick-up at church, along with envelopes to donate the $4.00 it costs to fill a bag.  The donation, however, is optional.  Please record your name, the date, and number of bags you take.  Give generously and joyfully!
