Weekly e-pistle 09/18/2016

     St. Paul's               E-pistle

September 15, 2016

This Sunday, September 18th
18th Sunday after Pentecost
As we are invited today to consider what it means to be managers (rather than owners) of all that we have, it is crucial to recall that we are bought with a price. "Christ Jesus, himself human, . . . gave himself a ransom for all." Apart from the generosity of God we have nothing-we are nothing. By God's gracious favor we have everything we need.

Holy Communion - 10 AM
All are welcome to receive Communion!

Sunday's Readings:
Amos 8:4-7      Psalm 113      1 Timothy 2:1-7      Luke 16:1-13

Sunday's chancel flowers: are given to the glory of God by The Domingo family in memory of Don & Rose Domingo and Veronica Duquette.

Blessing the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Quilts and Kits
During the worship service on Sunday, September 25th we will take time to bless the LWR quilts and kits.  The donation of time and materials generated 17 quilts / fleece blankets, 48 school kits, 20 personal kits, and 2 fabric kits.

We will also be collecting donations to help LWR with the cost of mailing the quilts and kits. The price LWR pays for mailing is $2.25 per quilt/blanket, $1.40 per school kit, $2.65 per personal kit and $1.00 per fabric kit.  Any donation is helpful.

Thank you to all who donated and thank you also to Anita Patten for her time and effort to coordinate and oversee this very important outreach on behalf of our church.

KITCHEN TEA TOWELS - We need donations
Our kitchen tea towels are disappearing.  We are asking for donations to replenish our supply.  The flour sack variety is best. Flour sack tea towels have excellent absorption and are super soft and lint-free.

HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY

Common Ground:
Throughout the months of August and September, Common Ground in Vallejo is conducting a survey to learn more about our community's specific concerns related to neighborhood and school safety. We are particularly asking adults responsible for school-aged children, as well as older students, to weigh in on their experience of safety in Vallejo. Most importantly, we will be organizing toward a community meeting on September 27th to begin discussing how to work together toward productive and practical solutions.

The survey is available online here:  SURVEY
or print the survey here:  Printable Survey

For additional information or questions about Common Ground or the survey use this link: Common Ground and Survey Information

Vallejo Farmers Market
Join in fellowship with the volunteers from Holy Trinity to staff a booth at the Vallejo Farmers Market.  We are looking for volunteers from St. Paul's to help. Please sign up for a 2 hour time block to help in the booth and spread the word. See Kathy Sutin or Pr. Dawn if you have any questions or want more information.

Brown Bag Meal Ministry
Remember the hungry on street corners and elsewhere by having a Brown Bag Meal handy in your car to offer these folks. The bags are available for pick-up at church, along with envelopes to donate the $4.00 it costs to fill a bag. The donation, however, is optional. Please record your name, the date, and number of bags you take. Give generously and joyfully!

Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist
