Weekly e-pistle 09/25/15

September 25, 2015

This Sunday, September 27th

Holy Communion - 10 AM
All are welcome to receive Communion!
Someone is casting out demons in Jesus' name who isn't part of Jesus' own circle, and the disciples want him stopped. They appeal to Jesus, as Joshua did to Moses about the elders who prophesied without official authorization. Like Moses, Jesus refuses to see this as a threat. Jesus welcomes good being done in his name, even when it is not under his control. The circle we form around Jesus' word must be able to value good being done in ways we wouldn't do it, by people we can't keep tabs on.

Sunday's readings:
Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29; Psalm 19:7-14; James 5:13-20; Mark 9:38-50

Blessing of the Animals & Picnic Lunch Sunday, October 4th (St. Francis' Day) at Noon: Bring your beloved animal friend (or stuffed animal friend) for a blessing, and enjoy a hot dog lunch in our picnic area.If your animal friend cannot be present, bring a photo - or simply tell us about your friend. We also offer prayer in remembrance of animal friends who have died.

Brown Bag Ministry:
We have been giving out quite a few Brown Bags lately, both at St. Paul's and to hungry people we encounter when in our cars.  This is a real blessing to those who rarely get a well balanced and nutritious meal.  We ask for donations as it costs about $4.00 to put together a bag.  You can either put donations in the jar in Fellowship Hall or make out a separate check to St. Paul's designating it for the Brown Bag Ministry.  Your compassion and generosity will be blessed.

LAST WEEK TO DONATE SCHOOL KITS for Lutheran World Relief! Lutheran World Relief has made a plea for school supplies. We will be taking the supplies to the annual "In-gathering" early in October. Please include the following for each kit:
  • 5 spiral notebooks (70 pages)
  • Ruler; scissors
  • Pink eraser
  • 5 pencils
  • 5 pens
  • 18 or 24 box crayons
If you don't have time to shop, you may make a donation. $25 buys 6 school kits. Questions? Call Anita Patten at 707.745.0648.
