This Sunday, July 19th Holy Communion - 10 AM - All are welcome to receive Communion! Mark's gospel makes clear how great was the press of the crowd, with its countless needs to be met, on Jesus and his disciples. Yet in today's gospel Jesus advises his disciples to get away and rest, to take care of themselves. Sometimes we think that when others are in great need we shouldn't think of ourselves at all; but Jesus also honors the caregivers' need. We are sent from Christ's table to care for others and for ourselves.
At our presiding bishop's request, we will continue to pray throughout the summer for an end to racism.
Book Study - 9 AM - The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness Sunday's readings: Jeremiah 23:1-6; Psalm 23; Ephesians 2:11-22; Mark 6:30-34, 53-56

Other Happenings: This Sunday, we welcome Pr. Newt Kerney, who will be filling in for Pr. Pamela while she is away teaching interim ministry. Pr. Newt is a retired ELCA pastor, living in Cotati, CA. He retired in 2012 and has spent part of the first chapter of his retirement working with churches in international settings that do not have permanent pastors. He has worked with churches in Lithuania, Bali, Tanzania, and will be in Mexico later this year. He enjoys hiking up near Mt. Lassen National Park, and works three to four days a month at a local winery; just for fun. Prior to his retirement from Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Rohnert Park, he served churches in Paradise, CA, Pearl City, HI, and San Luis Obispo, CA. Pr. Newt is married, has three children, and three grandchildren.
