Weekly E-Pistle for Sunday 11/19/17

This Sunday, November 19th

Holy Communion - 10AM at Holy Trinity
All are welcome to receive Communion!

Our readings during November speak of the end times. Zephaniah proclaims that the coming day of the Lord will be filled with wrath and distress. Paul says it will come like a thief in the night and urges us to be awake and sober. Jesus tells the parable of the talents, calling us to use our gifts, while we still have time, for the greater and common good. In a world filled with violence and despair, we gather around signs of hope-word, water, bread and wine-eager to welcome the good news of Christ's coming among us.

Sunday's readings:
Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18; Psalm 90:1-8 [9-11] 12; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11; Matthew 25:14-30

Thanksgiving Dinner this Sunday at Holy Trinity

It hardly seems possible but here it is that time of year again. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving with a lovely dinner after church this Sunday, November 19, with our joint church families at Holy Trinity. Not only that we will be doing in the newly remodeled kitchen at Holy Trinity.

The turkey will be provided but the rest is potluck provided by you. If you missed the sign up sheet last Sunday you can call Vicki and Craig Pyle, organizers, at (707) 645-7092 to see what's missing or just bring a favorite dish of your own to share. That sign up sheet looked deliciously full by the time it got around to me (Judy) last Sunday.

The dinner will follow immediately after the 10 am church service.

How can I offer support and encouragement for those who have suffered loss in the recent wild fires of Northern California?

The synod is suggesting donations to two agencies: Lutheran Social Services of Northern California and Lutheran Disaster Response.  Donations to Lutheran Social Services can be designated through their "October Wildfire Relief Fund" for needs in northern California in general.  To donate to specific congregations, indicate the name of the congregation in the designated donation box. 100% of these monies will be given directly to churches and ministries that have been affected by the fires. Donations to Lutheran Disaster Relief can be designated to "U.S. Fire Relief" and will be used more generally to support churches and ministries and communities that have been affected by fires through the fall and throughout the west. 100% of donations so designated will be used by LDR to offer support to affected communities.

Continue to to hold both those who have suffered loss and those agencies and individuals providing response in your prayers.

Christ's Care List

"Without the discipline of prayer, the world retains its illusions. Without an hour of public prayers, or half hour of private prayer, or ten minutes of quiet meditation, or saying a brief prayer of gratitude before or after a meal, we forget that God is present in the world and in our life. When we remember to pray in the morning, when we are mindful of the present moment, when we set apart Saturday or Sunday as the Sabbath, God's special day of the week, then all of life, and all times and places, and all people that we see are transformed by the light of God. The more we pray--in the sense of living a prayerful life--the more we desire to be with God in prayer. Prayer creates in us a hunger and thirst to be with the One whom we have see shining through nature and moments in time, people and events." -Henri Nouwen-SPIRITUAL FORMATION
