Weekly e-pistle 12/04/2015

 December 4, 2015

This Sunday, December 6th
2nd Sunday of Advent

Holy Communion - 10 AM
All are welcome to receive Communion!
Forerunners and messengers advance the advent of our God.  While John the Baptizer;s voice in the wilderness may be the principal focus of the day, Malachi's prophecy could as easily herald the coming Lord Jesus as forerunner of the Lord of hosts.  Finally all the baptized are called to participate in the sharing of the gospel.  In so doing we prepare the way for the coming of the Lord and assist all flesh in capturing a vision of the "salvation of God."

Sunday's Readings:
 Malachi 3:1-4        Psalmody-Luke 1:68-79        Philippians 1:3-11    Luke 3:1-6

Sunday's chancel flowers: are given to the glory of God by Hervey Family in memory of Papa (Don Hervey)

Sunday's Hymn of the Day:  "I Cried to God" penned by Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette
This song was sung November 3rd at a Stop Gun Violence event at the Washington National Cathedral. Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette says, "She hopes her hymns help people find the words to sing, to find the courage to do what God wants them to do in this world, and that's to work for a less violent world, a world where we have more justice and more peace." Read more about Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette and her hymns against gun violence in this national news publication RNS News article. Our Interim Pastor Rev. Pamela Griffith Pond was interviewed for the article and St. Paul's congregation is highlighted for their voices in song.
