October 22, 2015 This Sunday, October 25th Reformation Sunday  Holy Communion - 10 AM   All are welcome to receive Communion! On this day we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel of Christ-the good news-that makes us free! We pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to unite the church today in its proclamation and witness to the world. In the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians will also be one at God's table.        Sunday's readings:  Jeremiah 31:31-34 Psalm 46 Romans 3:19-28 John 8:31-36     I Was Hungry, I was Thirsty, I was in Prison and ... Learn how faith and justice are intertwined in a hungry world! This educational workshop by the Sierra Pacific Synod Hunger Network explores both the life-saving work of the ELCA Hunger Appeal, and how reforming mass incarceration policies and practices is crucial to ending hunger and poverty in this country. If there is an interest, a parallel children's program will be offered. Keynote speakers: Dr. Ryan Cumming, Hunger Education Director of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal; Laura Magnani, Director of American Friends Service Committee's Bay Area Healing Justice Program in California and coauthor of the AFSC publication, "Beyond Prisons: A New Interfaith Paradigm for Our Failed Prison System."  WHEN: THIS SATURDAY, October 24, 2015, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. WHERE: Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, Davis, CA Remember Loved Ones Who Have Died with Joy and Thanksgiving on All Saints Day, November 1st! You are invited to bring pictures or other small mementos of your loved ones who have died. We will place these items near the altar as an offering of thanksgiving, and a reminder that, when we come to God's table, we share in a foretaste of the feast of God's saints of every time and place. Worshipers will also have an opportunity to light candles in memory of those who have died, and names of our beloved dead will be read during the prayers Names of our beloved dead will be read aloud during worship.
